Melvin Schradle

December 24, 1916 – January 6, 2010

Melvin Schradle, age 93, died January 6, 2010.  He was one of six brothers, born to Czech immigrants homesteading in Montana.  The family then farmed in Minnesota and Alabama, where Mel reveled in his youthful adventures.  He later enjoyed ranching in Texas and finally found his home in Oregon. He served in the Navy as an aviation mechanic during WWII, from 1940 to 1946.  He was a craftsman carpenter, an inventor and tinkerer.  He was a fisherman and hunter who loved wildlife and nature.  He played baseball for the Scio town team and his love of baseball was second only to his love of family.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Natalie, his daughter Susan, son; Philip and wife Gail, four grandchildren, Sonia and Nick, Nathan and Mara, and one surviving brother Richard.
